We built Candy Rack to be as simple as possible so even a non-technical merchant is able to launch the upsell offer.
In this article and video, we walk you through the offer creation and some of the app basics.
Step 1: Start configuring your first upsell
Once the app is installed, the first page you will see is the Dashboard, offering two options:
Set up manually: Allows you to fully customize your upsells. We will take a closer look at this option in the following steps of this guide.
Activate offer: Allows you to activate AI-powered upsell in one click. This highly effective feature recommends relevant products to your customers after they hit the Add to Cart button.
Alternatively, you can also click on the New offer button in the top-right corner in your Candy Rack app admin.
Step 2: Select the offer placement
Starting from the very top, decide what kind of page should trigger the upsell offer and how you prefer to display it. Currently, you can choose from these six options:
Product page
Pop-up: Upsell pop-up triggered by the Add-to-cart button click.
Embedded block
Checkbox layout: Offers embedded to product pages; upsells selected by checkboxes to be added to the cart.
Button layout: Offers embedded to product pages; upsells added to the cart with their individual Add buttons.
Cart page
Pop-up: Upsell pop-up triggered by the Checkout button click.
Checkout
Embedded (pre-purchase): Offers embedded in the Checkout page. Available only to Shopify Plus due to limitations of the Shopify platform.
Post-purchase
Page: Appears as a standalone page after the order is placed, but before the Thank you page.
Embedded block: Post-purchase offers embedded in the Thank you or Order status pages. The original order is edited when an upsell is added.

Step 3: Set the targeting and offer details
You can target specific collections or products with upsell offers. By default, All Products are selected. With the use of Additional conditions, it is possible to have flexibility when choosing the target products.

In the Upsell type section, you are selecting which product(s) will be offered. There are four types:
AI mode: Products are selected automatically using Shopify’s Product Recommendations API. Learn more.
Manual mode: Enables manual selection of products for personalized upsells and promotions. You can select up to 10 upsell products per offer.
Same product: Offer the same product(s) that your customer has just added to the cart.
Custom service: Offer custom services like gift packaging and extended warranty, or create your own service. Note that you are responsible for the actual fulfillment of the service.

Upsell position: Control the offer position on the pop-up in case of multiple upsell offers. The one with the lowest number will be displayed at the top, the second lowest number will follow, and so on.
True upsell (upgrade): Option to offer customers an upgrade to a better version of the product (e.g., upgrading from iPhone 14 to iPhone 14 Pro).
Remove upsell product when parent product is removed: This can help in cases when you don't want to allow customers to buy the upsell product(s) without the targeted product(s).
Don't display if any of the offered product is already in the cart: Prevents the upsell offer from being visible if any of the upsell products are already added.
Display custom note field: Enable the text field to allow your customers to enter personalization details/messages.
Match parent product's quantity: Offer the same number of upsell products as the number of targeted products.
Enable quantity selector: This will allow customers to add multiple items of the upsell product(s) to the cart.
Please note that some of the settings are available only to specific placements.
Step 4: Save and test the offer on your store
Now just click on the Save button at the bottom right part of the page. And that's it, your upsell offer is now live. Congratulations!
As the last step, we recommend going to your store and testing if the app works as expected.
