Publishers can choose to trade part of their commission for a discount that applies to any merchant who installs through their affiliate link. It's a flexible tool: publishers lower their own earnings in exchange for a more compelling offer, which typically lifts their install rate.
How it works
Every affiliate link starts with the full commission rate set by the app developer. If you activate a discount, a portion of that commission is redirected to the merchant as a permanent price reduction on their subscription.
Example
The app costs $100/month with a 25% commission rate.
Without a discount: you earn $25/month per merchant. The merchant pays the full $100.
With a 10% discount: you earn $15/month per merchant. The merchant pays $90 — permanently, for as long as they stay subscribed.
The discount is visible to the merchant on the charge approval screen, so they see the reduced price before they commit to installing.
When to use it
The discount feature is most effective when:
You're targeting price-sensitive merchants who need an incentive to try a paid app.
You're promoting in a channel where a clear offer outperforms a generic recommendation — deal sites, email lists, comparison content.
The commission rate is high enough that giving up part of it still leaves meaningful earnings.
If you're recommending apps based on fit rather than price, the discount usually isn't needed — and you keep the full commission.
Set up the discount
On your Dashboard, find the app card for the app you're promoting. Click the Actions dropdown in the top right of the card and select Referral link discount.
In the dialog that opens, set the ratio between your remaining commission and the discount amount. The total always equals the full commission rate — you're splitting it between yourself and the merchant, not reducing the developer's take.
When a discount is active on a link, the app card shows a green Provided discount badge next to the app name, so you can see at a glance which of your links are running a discount.
Changing the discount afterwards only affects future installs. Merchants who installed earlier keep the discount rate that was active at the time of their install.
If the option isn't available
Not every app supports discounts — the feature has to be enabled by the app developer. If Referral link discount doesn't appear in the Actions dropdown for a given app, the developer hasn't enabled it.
You can reach out to the developer to request it, but only they can turn it on.
For app developers: enabling the feature
If you're an app developer and want your publishers to be able to offer discounts, you need to enable the feature in your app configuration in PartnerJam. Once enabled, any publisher promoting your app will see the Discount button and can configure their own split.
Your full commission rate stays the same — the split happens entirely between the publisher and the merchant, so your revenue per install is unchanged compared to a non-discounted referral.
